Håkan Nesser, The Mind's Eye
"[The Mind's Eye] is a hauntingly powerful tale you
won't soon forget."
- Publishers Weekly
The Mind's Eye is the first book in Håkan Nesser's Van Veeteren series.
In the grey, hazy town of Maardam, somewhere in Europe, Inspector Van Veeteren is put in charge of the case of Janek Mattias Mitter. High school teacher Mitter can’t remember if he killed his wife or not. He woke up one day with a severe hangover and found his wife of three months lying dead in the bathtub, facedown.
Mitter is found guilty and is locked up in a mental institution. But then another murder takes place, a crime that makes it unlikely that Mitter killed his wife. Van Veeteren who first saw an easy explanation to an awful domestic crime, now finds himself leading an investigation completely turned on its head.
