Helene Tursten
Rheumatism forced Helene Tursten to give up her job as a dentist at the age of forty. The loss of a professional identity threw her into a personal crisis. She turned to writing.
Tursten describes the creative process as inner pictures that come to her. She collects these pictures until she feels the story is complete. Only then she starts writing. “It may seem as if I do nothing for months on end, but in reality I’m working intensely on the book in my mind”, Tursten says.
So far three of Tursten’s crime novels starring inspector Irene Huss have been translated into English. The setting is often the city of Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast. Tursten’s absorbing, intelligent writing is also characterized by detailed, realistic crime scene imagery that has been described as “shocking”.
