Kurt Wallander's secretive colleague Svedberg is found dead at his home with half his head blown off. Later the bodies of three students surface, apparently murdered and secretly buried several weeks ago. It seems the murderer now wants the world to see the results of his deeds. More murders follow.
At the heart of the action we find Kurt Wallander battling his own fatigue and illness. Still Wallander starts piecing together clues that lead him closer and closer to the cold-blooded killer, who remains one step ahead until the frightful end. And it seems there were things Wallander did not know about his colleague Svedberg.
