Henning Mankell, The Fifth Woman
"Exquisite...Something to look
forward to."
- Los Angeles Times Book Review
The Fifth Woman is the sixth novel in Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander series.
An elderly poet is found dead in a ditch, impaled with sharpened bamboo stakes. The corpse has been badly savaged by crows. Then a flower shop manager is found dead in the local woods. The killer has made sure his death was gruesomely slow.
Kurt Wallander and his team discover a link between the two murdered men: both of their wives mysteriously vanished several years ago. When yet another man is found dead, drowned in a nearby lake, it is obvious that Wallander and his team have a brutal and sadistic serial killer on their hands.
